Simon Hedges

UK

I have over 35 years of experience in the design and implementation of evidence-based, high-impact biodiversity conservation projects working with NGOs, local communities, academia, and government agencies. I have worked in the field, in HQ roles, and in the policy arena, including work on human-wildlife conflict (HWC) mitigation; countering the illegal wildlife trade (IWT); conservation-related research; biodiversity surveys; policy formulation with a focus on human-wildlife coexistence; and monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL). I worked for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) for 18 years (2000–2018), ultimately coordinating WCS’s elephant conservation programme. I have also worked as a consultant for NGOs, IUCN, the private sector, and governments. In addition, I am part of the IUCN Task Force that developed the IUCN Green Status of Species system. Since 2021, I have been employed by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) as its Planning, Design, & Impact Lead.
