James Stevens is a Programme Manager at TRAFFIC, where he works to support legal and sustainable trade in wild species, with a focus on policy and livelihoods. He previously served as Programme Officer for the HWCC Specialist Group, where he managed and developed the groups knowledge platform and products, including the IUCN SSC Guidelines on Human–Wildlife Conflict and Coexistence, document library, case studies and webinar series. He also organised the International Conference on Human-Wildlife Conflict and Coexistence. James completed his PhD at the University of Bristol in 2018, researching human–elephant conflict in Botswana’s Makgadikgadi region. He holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham and an MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation from the University of East Anglia. His work centres on understanding and reducing human–wildlife conflict across diverse contexts.
