Emmanuel Akampurira is Manager of Research at the Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Centre (UWRTC), where he provides strategic leadership for the development and implementation of the Centre’s research portfolio. He holds a BSc in Wildlife Health and Management from Makerere University (Uganda), an MSc in Tropical Forestry from Bangor University (UK), and a PhD in Political Ecology of Wildlife Conservation from Ghent University (Belgium). With more than 15 years of experience in research and wildlife management, Emmanuel has worked across East and Central Africa and in Europe. His research focuses on the human dimensions of wildlife conservation, human–wildlife coexistence, biodiversity monitoring and assessment, animal behaviour, and the impacts of development and infrastructure on biodiversity conservation. He is Editor‑in‑Chief of the African Conservation Telegraph (ACT) newsletter and chairs the regional council of the Society for Conservation Biology. He is a founding member of the African Golden Cat Conservation Alliance.
