Camilla Sandström is Professor of Political Science at Umeå University, Sweden, and holds the UNESCO Chair in Environmental Governance and Social Transformation. Her research focuses on transforming human–wildlife conflicts toward long‑term coexistence through inclusive, equitable, and adaptive governance. She works at the science–policy–practice interface on issues related to pastoralism in Arctic and African contexts, including large carnivore governance, and land‑use conflict, with strong attention to Indigenous and local livelihoods and rights. A core part of her work concerns the design and evaluation of policy instruments that support coexistence and conflict transformation, such as collaborative governance regimes, conservation incentive payments, and other mechanisms that foster trust, legitimacy, and shared responsibility among stakeholders. She is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research, co‑production, and international biodiversity and policy processes.
