India

Sayan Banerjee graduated from National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, India and is currently an independent researcher. Sayan's focus has been to understand the interdisciplinary nature of the human-wildlife relations, especially in the Indian subcontinent. For his doctoral work, Sayan studied the intersections of behavioral and political ecologies that emerge from people's interactions with wild Asian elephants in rural northeast India. Apart from human-wildlife relations, Sayan is also interested in broader areas of conservation social science, community-centric conservation and alternative governance systems of bio-cultural resources. Sayan is also board member at the Social Science Working Group, as well as the Asia chapter, both working under the Society of Conservation Biology. Sayan has published several book chapters as well as peer reviewed journal articles with leading publishers.
