Michael J. Manfredo formerly the Department Head of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources at Colorado State University, is currently on transitional retirement. During Dr. Manfredo’s career, his research, teaching and outreach activities focused on the role of social science in natural resource management, primarily wildlife management. He has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and several books, including “Who Cares About Wildlife” which overviews psychological concepts useful in human dimensions research. Much of Manfredo’s research has been in cooperation with state fish and wildlife agencies in the US with a central focus on how societal change has affected wildlife values which has been a foundation for the growing conflict observed in wildlife management issues. His current work is looking at how, globally, cultural values affect acceptance of lethal control in human-wildlife conflict situations.
