Özgün Emre Can is a solution-driven wildlife research biologist focusing on human–carnivore conflict and carnivore conservation. With 27 years of field-based experience, his cross-disciplinary work operates at the vital intersection of ecological science, conservation practice, and policy innovation. An Associate Professor at Ankara University, Türkiye, he previously held fellowships at Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit and CIHEAM/MAICh (France/Greece), and established mammal conservation programs for WWF Türkiye and BirdLife Türkiye. His current research spans the evolution of human–wolf interactions in Western and Eastern cultures, transdisciplinary approaches to human–carnivore conflict, and the ecology of clouded and common leopards in the Himalayas. He is a member of several IUCN Commissions and Specialist Groups and has served on the boards of the Society for Conservation Biology and the International Association for Bear Research and Management. Having collaborated with Dr. George Schaller, Prof. Dave Mech, and Prof. David Macdonald, he has trained students and professionals from over 20 countries and reached audiences in over 70 countries through public engagement, promoting human–carnivore coexistence.
