I spent all my professional life with the Eurasian otter. Starting in 1986 with field work, finishing my PhD on the ecology of otters in Central Europe in 1995. In those days the otter was rare and in Austria almost extinct. In Central Europe the species made a remarkable comeback and is now considered as a protected conflict species. Since 2000 together with my colleagues from https://www.alkawildlife.eu/ we study interactions of otters and prey species fuelled by conflicts with anglers and fish farmers.
