Description

This working group aims to establish a clear working definition of human-wildlife coexistence (HWCx), and to work consultatively to establish the key dimensions of HWCx, in order to facilitate more coherent research, monitoring, and management actions related to fostering coexistence.

Objectives

  1. Develop a clear definition of Human-Wildlife Coexistence

  2. Consult with conservation colleagues and other stakeholders about human-wildlife coexistence, and develop case studies

  3. Produce a ‘What is Human-Wildlife Coexistence’ document for the IUCN / HWCCSG, to supplement and expand the 'Perspectives on Human-Wildlife Coexistence' document the Working Group has already produced.

  4. Publish a definition and dimensions conceptual paper on Human-Wildlife Coexistence in a peer-reviewed journal.

  5. Work on producing guidance on Human-Wildlife Coexistence for fostering coexistence in policy and practice.
