IUCN SSC Human-Wildlife Conflict & Coexistence Specialist Group (HWCCSG) comprises specialists from a range of disciplines across the natural and social sciences and humanities, and includes e.g. experts in conflict mediation, stakeholder dialogue processes, social psychology, behaviour change and social marketing, behavioural ecology, animal cognition, environmental history, conservation planning, and other topics, as well as a number of experts on various taxonomic groups commonly involved in human-wildlife conflicts, such as elephants, large cats and bears.

The HWCCSG is consists of by a small staff and steering groupmembers, government focal points and working groups.

New members are appointed on a bi-annual basis by invitation only, and are based on double nominations and regular reviews of specific technical or regional gaps in the membership. Due to the voluntary nature of the SSC network, and the considerable activity portfolio and contributions of time by members, not all nominations can be accepted each year. More information about membership is available here.
