Deputy Director, WildCRU, University of Oxford, UK
Head of Conservation, Born Free Foundation, UK
After many years debating how to tackle human-wildlife conflict issues with the IUCN Species Survival Commission it is great to see a Task Force convened.
I am the Deputy Director of WildCRU at the University of Oxford, Chair of the IUCN SSC Canid Specialist Group and Head of Conservation at Born Free Foundation. In these roles I am involved in many field projects across the world, and encounter and seek to mitigate human-wildlife conflict on a regular basis. As a conservation biologist my professional interests include threatened mammalian species (particularly the biology and conservation of wild canids), impacts of disease, protected areas management, transfrontier conservation and the role of professional networks in conservation.
In 2004 I established the People & Wildlife Initiative, an information and resource hub helping resolve conflicts between the needs of people and those of wildlife, and develop long-term, humane solutions.
