PhD in Wildlife Conservation (University of Oxford, UK), MS in Ecology, Evolution and Systematics (University of Missouri-Saint Louis, USA) and BS in Biology (University of Sao Paulo, Brazil). Executive Coordinator of the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Big Cats for his native country, Brazil, member of the IUCN Conservation Planning Specialist Group and Associate Editor for Animal Conservation (Zoological Society of London), he is the founder of Escola da Amazônia, a project that earned him a Whitley Award. Silvio co-edited the book 'Human-Wildlife Interactions: Turning Conflict into Coexistence" (Cambridge University Press) and has taught human dimensions of wildlife management to students and wildlife professionals in Brazil, United Kingdom, United States, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Bolivia.
