Member of the IUCN Conservation Planning Specialist Group (CPSG) and Editor for Frontiers in Conservation Science and Conservation Science & Practice. Founder of Escola da Amazônia, a project that earned him a Whitley Award, and of the Community of Practice in Human-Wildlife Coexistence (CoPCoex). Silvio co-edited the book 'Human-Wildlife Interactions: Turning Conflict into Coexistence" (Cambridge University Press) and has taught human dimensions and planning for human-wildlife coexistence to students and wildlife professionals in Brazil, United Kingdom, United States, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Malaysia
